The House

A pair of Acadian cottages, joined and set under the oaks

The Sycamore House occupies a National Register property overlooking historic Main Street in old town Bay St. Louis. Originally a pair of nineteenth-century Acadian cottages, the two halves were combined into a single dwelling in the 1850s, long known as the Mauffray Boarding House.

Today the cottage is a fully modern restaurant whose two dining rooms, screened porch, and patio sit easily in tune with its laid-back historic atmosphere. Mature oaks shade the porch, the way they have for generations.

The Chefs

Stella & Michael

Both trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Both won recognition for their cooking. Both would rather be welcoming you to the table.

Stella LeGardeur and Michael Eastham came to the Gulf Coast in the fall of 2002 in search of a home and a restaurant, and found both in the former Mauffray boarding house. They named it The Sycamore House in honor of Michael's grandmother, whose British home of the same name was a source of joy to him as a child.

She apprenticed with pastry master Dieter Schorner; both of them cooked with Ric Orlando at New World Home Cooking. The menu that grew out of that training runs from turtle soup to ropa vieja to a chocolate oblivion torte, and every plate carries it.
